Lighting Design

Peter West was born in Heswall, England and grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia. He graduated from Guilford College with Bachelor of Science in Drama and Speech and completed graduate training at the American Repertory Theatre Institute at Harvard. He is a member of United Scenic Artists, Local 829. This biography was last updated on January 11th, 2013.

2011: The Life of Galileo (dir, Michael Donald Edwards) at The Cleveland Playhouse, The Witch of Edmonnton (dir, Jesse Berger) with Red Bull Theatre, An Ideal Husband (dir. Keith Baxter) at the Shakespeare Theatre , Henry V/Clyborne Park/Boston Marriage Rep (dirs. Niegel Smith/Hal Brooks/Lucie Tiberghian) at the Juilliard School as well as productions with the directors Niegel Smith,Scott Wentworth, Art Manke,Kent Gash, Daiken Matthews and Janet Zarish. He was also the Associate Designer on The People In The Picture (for James F. Ingalls) at the Roundabout/Studio 54.

2010: Neighbors (dir. Niegel Smith) at the Public Theatre (NYSF) Romeo and Juliet (dir. Tim Ocel) at Indiana Rep, Mrs Warrens Profession (dir. Keith Baxter) at the Shakespeare Theatre, and Shakespeare Santa Cruz (2010 Season) as well as productions with Seret Scott, Edisa Weeks, The Studio Theater (DC), Barrington Stage Company and The Juilliard School.

2009: Galileo (dir. Michael Donald Edwards) at the Asolo Theatre The Alchemist (dir. Michael Kahn) at the Shakespeare Theatre, Midsummer Nights Dream (dir. Aaron Posner) with Cal Shakes (2009 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award Nomination) and later ,at the Two River Theatre Company and Night Sky (dir. Daniella Topol) produced by Stan Raiff/Power Productions at Baruch College PAC as well as productions with Tanglewood Opera,Great Lakes Theatre Festival, Idaho Shakespeare and with the directors Drew Barr, Tim Ocel, Ira Siff and Edisa Weeks.

Other Projects: Amistad (dir. Sam Helfrich) at the Spoleto Festival USA, The Imaginary Invalid (dir. Keith Baxter) at The Shakespeare Theatre, This Is The Rill Speaking (dir. Tyler Marchant) at the Samuel Beckett Theatre, The Road Home (dir. David Schweizer) at the Huntington Theatre, Much Ado About Nothing at the California Shakespeare Theatre (dir. Peter Dubois) and, 9 Parts of Desire (dir. Joanna Settle) in New York, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Seattle and Washington,DC. Other notable directors he has worked with include Peter Dubois, Daniel Fish, Michael Mayer (at Juilliard),and Martha Clarke, He has designed over forty productions for the Juilliard School Drama Division.

Peter designed the NETworks tour of Kiss of the Spiderwoman in both America and Japan. Other international credits include designs at the Teatro Filharmonico in Verona, Italy, at the Artsphere Theater in Tokyo, and with Endemol Productions in the Netherlands. He has toured throughout America, Europe, South America and Asia as the Lighting Director of the White Oak Dance Project.

He is proud to have collaborated with the dancers and choreographers Amy Spencer and Richard Colton on a variety of projects over the last twenty years. He has also maintained long standing relationships with The Shakespeare Theater, Playmakers, The Juilliard School, Red Bull Theater Company and, Edisa Weeks He is currently an Adjunct Lighting Design lecturer at Brooklyn College.

Peter lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with his wife. He loves her, cooking, the Yankees, and music of all styles.
